Rotational Dining

  • DCL is the first and only cruise line that offers this

  • Servers will cut up the children’s food, so the adults do not need to

  • Typically, 3 main restaurants to eat dinner at that your rotate through

  • All the servers that are assigned to you day 1 and will travel with you to all the restaurants

    • Benefits is they get to know you and you get to know them

    • They learn your preferences such as drinks

  • The table number you have will be the same for all restaurants

  • Can request past servers

  • You get to know them and vice versa

  • Two main dining times

    • Early/main around 5:15 pm and late 8:15 pm

    • Mostly children in the early time

    • Typically shows in theater are opposite you’re eating time; early dinning shows start around 8 pm

  • If length of cruise > 3 days then will get to repeat a restaurant

  • Early dinning negative is there are times when you will need to either:

    • Get back on the ship early therefore cut your day at port early

    • Or really rush to get ready for dinner

  • Dine & play

    • Very helpful for second/late dining

    • Once you all sit down the server will take the kids order immediately and the kids will have food within 15 minutes

    • At around 6 or 9 pm based on dining the Kids Club staff will come and pick the kids up

    • Then the adults can enjoy the rest of the 1.5-hour meal

  • Typically, each dining is a 5 course meal with appetizer, soup, salad, entrée and dessert

  • Meals/menu are typically themed where you are eating

  • If you did not want a full entrée there are 3 or 4 lighter options

  • Dietary restrictions the staff will handle and discuss with you

  • Vegetarian options also

  • Staff does brain teasers and games in between course and down time

  • Order an entrée as an appetizer to try and smaller portion

  • You will not know your rotation or table number until you are on the ship

  • Your head server, server and assistant server will rotate with you to each dining room

  • The menus will rotate to match the restaurant you are in

  • Kids can order off kids menu or regular menu and adults can order off the kids menu also

  • Beverages like water, chocolate milk, tea, juice and soda are included.

  • Alcohol, smoothies are an extra charge

  • There is no limit to what you can order or how many dishes but some portions are not a small size

  • Try to split things and try a new dish, which is a great way for the kids to try something new

  • The restaurant you eat at the last night will be where you eat breakfast the next morning

  • Of the three main restaurants on each ship, at least one includes entertainment, and another offers a more upscale experience. The upscale restaurants are all right off the ship’s atrium (or Grand Hall). (1923, Tritons, Royal Court, Royal Palace, Lumiere’s)

  • Benefits of SECOND DINING

    • See characters during first dining time 5:45 - 6 pm

    • Family time between dinner and show is excellent time for slides/pools or during first dinning period

    • Less children and quieter dining

    • Do show then shower then dinner

  • Breakfast and Lunch Options

    • Whatever restaurant you are assigned for the final night of your cruise will also be your assigned restaurant for a sit-down breakfast before disembarking the next morning. This is the only time a breakfast location is assigned.

    • For breakfast and lunch on all but the final morning, there is still a table-service option available. Usually, the upscale restaurant (1923, Tritons, Royal Court, Royal Palace, Lumiere’s) will be open for breakfast and lunch hours.

    • At breakfast, there are classics like French toast, omelets, scrambled eggs, pancakes, Mickey waffles, fresh fruit, and pastries.

    • At lunch, guests can usually get things like hamburgers, sautéed fish, grilled chicken breast, pork ribs, soups, and salads. The breakfast and lunch menus are the same throughout the sailing.

    • You can also dine at the buffet or poolside quick-service venues for breakfast and lunch.

Ship Restaurants and Questions about Dining

Allergies

  • Once you board the ship on embarkation day you can go to guest services or special area to discuss your food allergies with the chef and staff so they are prepared in the rotational dining restaurants

  • Typically, at all rotational dining they will have an allergy friendly dinner and dessert menu

Food allergies what to do

  • Recommend visiting Guest Services located on deck 3, as soon as you embark on your trip. Note that you may spend a few minutes waiting in line, but by stopping by Guest Services you can make sure your allergy needs are accurately noted on your reservation and viewable to all of your serving staff.

  • At any meal, please note that you can also request to speak to the chef before any food comes to the table.

  • Please make sure you discuss allergy information with your servers and any time you stop at a quick service location

We have a 7-night cruise on the Fantasy and have been assigned second dining. Is it true last dining might miss out on several "parties"?

  • I am also assigned second dining for my upcoming cruise, but I assure you that any deck parties offered on your sailing will occur between the two dining times or after the second seating.

  • I know one party you’re probably looking forward to is Pirate Night. Those pesky plundering pirates can’t wait to take over the ship! In the past, some of the entertainment, such as dancing and joining Mickey’s pirate crew, happened between the two dining times, but the rest of the buccaneer blast was after 10:00 p.m. I find that our servers are great at pacing the meal to get us on deck in time to enjoy the festivities. Please check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app once you’re on the ship for the exact times. Entertainment offerings and schedules are subject to change.

  • Many Guests enjoy second dining because it’s quieter and cooler in the evening by the pool. It’s a great time to grab a raft and cruise around the ship on the AquaDuck or enjoy a peaceful sunset on your verandah. Tow Mater’s Grill is just a few steps away to help tide you over until dinner. If you would like to change your dining time, you can do so on the Disney Cruise Line website. Look for the heading “Already Booked,” then click “My Reservations.” You can change to main dining if available or join the waitlist.

  • Before it’s time to zip up those suitcases, I have one more suggestion. If you’re seeking a relaxing lunch with personalized service on embarkation day, I recommend heading to one of the open dining rooms instead of eating at Cabanas. I’ve learned from my good friend Lumiere that it’s nice to be the Guest! Whether you’re looking for soup de jour or hot hors d’oeuvres, the staff is happy to serve a culinary feast. There may not be any grey stuff but try the Welcome Aboard Sundae–it’s delicious!
