November 29, 2024

The Oriental Land Co., Ltd. has penned a new agreement with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in the hopes of developing a cruise business based out of Japan. As part of the agreement, Tokyo Port will be the primary departure and arrival point for OLC’s cruise business meaning that it will be host to the primary departures and arrivals for all sailings. This agreement also mentions the updated plans to begin building the new Disney Cruise Line ship in fiscal year 2025, with the goal of launching the ship in fiscal year 2028. The ship was first announced earlier this summer, and will be very similar the Wish class of ships (Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny). This cruise ship will mark the first time a Disney cruise ship is owned and operated by an organization other than The Walt Disney Company. Meyer Werft has been selected to build the new vessel scheduled to be delivered by the shipyard in calendar year 2028 who built the Wish Class of ships. The Wish Class of ships are around 144,000 gross tons with 1500 crew and 4000 passengers.
