Begin your day with a 45-minute narrated motor coach tour from your ship, where you will learn the history of this special part of the world.
Next, you will board a thirty-six-passenger boat with an experienced Captain and crew and set out for adventure towards Neets Bay Bear Observatory. Enjoy a 65-minute cruise through this pristine wilderness area, which is limited to a small number of visitors each year. The splendor of the Tongass National Forest is breathtaking, and there will be numerous photo opportunities as we sail towards our ultimate destination. Along the way you may see whales, eagles, sea lions and so much more!
Arrive at Neets Bay, home to thousands of bears, and they stake their claim near salmon spawning streams that feed into the Pacific Ocean. Upon arrival near the base of a stream, leave your boat and head toward the trail on foot, where you will be debriefed on the habitat you are about to explore and the bears you will be observing.
Enjoy the serenity of this lush forest and the chance to see smaller woodland creatures as you walk along a well-maintained forest trail, while making your way to the viewing platform for a chance to possibly see a bear!
Your guides will be on hand to answer all your questions about these majestic mammals and to share their knowledge of the surrounding forest and the importance of hatcheries to enhance salmon production in Southeast Alaska. Enjoy an approximately 30-minute narrated transfer (8 miles) along the Tongass Narrows to Herring Cove, home to the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary.
Travel with a group of Guests and your guide(s) as you search for black bears. Traverse through the Tongass National Rainforest along an approximately one-mile long trail. Feel close to nature as you walk among the rainforest's natural flora and fauna.
Enjoy exclusive access to a private elevated boardwalk—up to 20 feet off the ground—for close and safe bear viewing. Note: Guests are on the trail for approximately 90 minutes and must be able to stand at all times. Pace is leisurely, but they may need to move quickly for wildlife viewing.
Continue onto an elevated boardwalk that puts you above Eagle Creek and alongside the Whitman Hatchery—home to major runs of Pacific salmon throughout different periods of the summer. Look for local wildlife, including a variety of birds, black bears, deer, mink, marten and seals.
At the end of the trail take a brief walk through the historical Fleenor Sawmill.

Haul in the long line and see what the catch of the day is! Continue sailing in search of wildlife, including bald eagles, whales, sea lions and seals.
Watch one of the highlights of the tour: hauling in the 700-pound king crab pots! A catch of golden king crab and snow crab are sure to delight. All the catch is placed in an on-deck aquarium so you can get an up-close look at these amazing marine animals you may never see again. Take lots of pictures and maybe even hold in your hand some of the creatures of the deep–if you dare! The pilot will take you over gentle waves and along the jagged shoreline before flying your craft from the water to the beach. Have your camera ready as the hovercraft transitions from sea to land. Meet a guide and travel for approximately 20 minutes to Knudson Cove Marina while receiving a narrated tour of the city and outlying areas. Note: Guests are required to pay cash for the fishing license ($15 USD) and king salmon stamp ($15 USD). License required for ages 16 and older.
Meet your captain and be divided in groups of 4 to 6 Guests, before boarding local fishing boats. The ships are approximately 24 feet to 29 feet long. Whether you're an experienced angler or a novice to the fishing world, your coast guard-licensed captain will treat you to a memorable excursion as he shows you the ins and outs of fishing in Alaska.
Fish for approximately 3.5 hours. When you're not reeling in your catch, marvel at wildlife and local scenery. Seals, sea lions, otter, porpoise and even whales might treat you to a show. Bald eagles will offer you superb photo opportunities as they swoop down to grasp their own "catch of the day."
Learn about the history and lifestyle of Ketchikan from a seasoned and knowledgeable charter captain. Snack on a seafood treat while you fish for wild Alaskan salmon. Knudson Cove Marina is located on prime fishing grounds. Because of its remarkable location, you will be only a few minutes from the dock before your lines hit the water.

Follow your knowledgeable guide through this ancient forest and learn about plant species native to this region, like Western red cedar and yellow cedar. Early natives were dependent upon these trees for spiritual enrichment, shelter and transportation. Sitka spruce was instrumental in the construction of Howard Hughes' famous Spruce Goose and other early vintage fighter planes.

Begin your adventure with an approximately 40-minute, scenic motorcoach tour to a secluded mountain lake. You'll then board Indian-style, 37-foot canoes that are fast, stable and easy to maneuver.
Paddle for approximately one hour under the direction of an experienced guide. Scan the shore for wildlife and learn the unique natural and native history of the Ketchikan area. The lake, part of a lush rainforest, is ideal for canoeing and is surrounded by the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.
Stop ashore for approximately 30 minutes at a remote base camp for an Alaskan-style snack, including smoked salmon, clam chowder and rolls with wild berry jams and beverages. Walk through a rainforest to a salmon hatchery and old sawmill before observing a carving center and a totem park.
On this adventure you will...
Enjoy an approximately 30-minute narrated transfer (8 miles) along the Tongass Narrows to Herring Cove, home to the Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary.
Take a guided walk along a gravel trail in the Tongass National Rainforest amid the flora and fauna for approximately one hour. Continue to an elevated boardwalk that stretches above Eagle Creek and along the Whitman Hatchery, home to major runs of Pacific salmon throughout the summer. Look for local wildlife, including a variety of birds, black bears, deer, mink, marten and seals.
At the end of the trail, take a brief walk through the historical Fleenor Sawmill.
Spend time in the carving center learning about Native culture and traditions before heading out to view the amazing collection of totems.
Finally, enjoy some free time in the General Store to shop.
Reboard a motorcoach and transfer back to the pier.

On this adventure you will...
Take a scenic drive (approximately 30 minutes) to the north end of Ketchikan's only road. Meet your captain who will gear you up for a fun, high-speed boat ride that will last approximately 15 minutes. Keep an eye out for eagles!
Land on the beach and meet your guides, who will instruct and accompany you on an approximately 90-minute adventure through the Tatoosh Islands, a serene and protected island chain with serene waters.
Keep an eye out for seals, sea lions and intertidal life under your boat. Note: Guests use a double kayak. Single kayaks are available upon request.
Return to the beach and stretch your legs. See old-growth trees and the lush forest that lie behind the shore's fringe.
Enjoy a hot beverage and a cookie at the beach.

Take a boat tour up the George Inlet to for great scenery and a visit to a crab estuary, finishing with a crab feast.
On this adventure you will...
Leave downtown behind on an approximate 30-minute narrated coastal drive past canneries, an old sawmill, totem poles and waterfalls.
Arrive at the George Inlet Lodge and board your boat destined for the crab fishing grounds. Cruise up the inlet on a 7-mile journey (for approximately 90 minutes) on which you will admire the history and natural beauty of the region.
Pass the George Inlet Cannery and learn about the fish traps and fish pirates from before Alaska's statehood. View the Mahoney Glacial Cirque site of an old gold mine, snowcapped mountains and 2,000-foot waterfalls. A river at the bottom of the valley is host to bears, eagles, salmon, killer whales, sea lions and seals who make frequent visits to the area in search of food. After crossing the fjord to a remote crab estuary, volunteers are recruited to help pull crab pots. These crabs will be set free, but you'll have the opportunity to see them up close and learn about their anatomy and life cycle.
Once the pots are reset return to the lodge to relax over a delicious Dungeness crab feast. Your meal comes complete with salad and cheesecake with blueberry topping and coffee, tea, soft drinks, house white wine and George Inlet Lodge Red Ale (Guests 21 and older only). Everyone will have fun with our crab shell stacking contest! Note: Alternate meals available (grilled chicken and a vegetarian entrée).

On this adventure you will…
Board an awaiting deluxe waterjet-powered expedition vessel to start a memorable wildlife safari. Your knowledgeable captain will use an understanding of tides, weather and seasonal changes to design an expedition uniquely suited to the day.
Watch for humpback and orca whales, Dall’s porpoises, harbor seals, and eagles. As animals are sighted, the captain will maneuver the vessel to provide optimal views and your expert naturalist will explain their fascinating life cycles and behaviors.
Take a leisurely break from the cruise to step ashore on remote Annette Island, greeted by your Tsimshian hosts: “La Gwelga Lak!”—which means, “The Fire Has Been Lit!” This gentle bay area, with a sloping beach fringed with lush vegetation, presents stunning views of the surrounding islands.
Take an opportunity to explore the old growth rainforest, learn about the intertidal zone and traditional harvesting techniques, and enjoy an Alaska-style beach bonfire.
While your camp hosts tend the fire, indulge your adventurer’s appetite. Eat a scrumptious feast that includes reindeer sausage hotdogs, kettle chips, salmonberry jam and other local delights. For a beverage, you may choose from beer, wine, soda or juice.
Finish your meal with an American classic: roasting marshmallows for s’mores made with locally-crafted chocolate. Back aboard the vessel, you’ll continue scanning the coastline and water for signs of wildlife while enjoying complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
Return to the pier.
