  • On this adventure you will…

  • Learn about Astoria's history of brewing beer from knowledgeable guides as you ride by the Columbia River in Astoria.

  • Stop first at Fort George Brewery + Public House and sample exciting flavors such as coffee stout or wasabi-flavored ginger ale. During your visit, you might want to try "The Quick Wit," a Belgian-style ale that's made with organic pale and wheat malts, ground coriander and lemongrass.

  • Continue to Rogue Ales. Occupying a former Bumble Bee tuna cannery, Rogue sits on the Astoria Riverwalk, a 5-mile river trail that's lined with hotels, restaurants, parks and a nearly 100-year-old restored trolley train. Some of Rogue Ales' barrel-aged beers and ales you might want to try include "Chipotle Ale," which is a deep golden ale that's made with roasted chipotle peppers and produces an eye opening chili flavor with a malty, smoky aroma and smooth, crisp flavor.

  • Travel to the Wet Dog Cafe, where a variety of beers are handcrafted using a wide range of hops and grains to create unique flavors. The pub's riverfront deck is open during the summer and offers a fantastic view of the Columbia River. Some of the beers you might try include "Strawberry Blonde," which attributes its light pink to golden opaque hue to the barley, wheat and 90 pounds of strawberries that go into its making.

  • Return to your ship, passing the Columbia River Maritime Museum, which features one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the west coast.

  • On this adventure you will…

  • Board your shuttle and travel along Astoria's tree-lined streets. As you approach Flavel House, you'll be immediately struck by the park-like grounds that cover an entire city block. This beautiful setting was also the site of many Hollywood movies including the 1980s hits The Goonies and Short Circuit.

  • Walk into Flavel House's grand entry and step back into the 19th century. The first floor features 14-foot high ceilings, a formal parlor, music room, library, dining room, conservatory, kitchen and a butler's pantry. Climb the winding wooden staircase to the second floor and tour the main bathroom, 5 bedrooms and a sewing room. The attic floor features 2 bedrooms that were used by the family's servants. The 3-story tower provided the Captain a panoramic view of Astoria and the Columbia River.

  • Gaze in awe at elegant furnishings, art and décor typical of the Victorian age. Six unique fireplaces also grace the home and feature imported tiles from around the world, elaborate hand-carved mantels and patterned fireboxes.

  • Board a bus and travel across Youngs Bay Bridge for the short journey to Fort Stevens State Park. Once you arrive, a knowledgeable guide will take you on a tour of this nearly 146-year-old fort and share its fascinating history.

  • Travel through the complex, its bunkers, abandoned gun batteries and tower stations. Then, venture underground to the Battery Mishler. Here, during WWII, 10-inch cannons were mounted on disappearing carriages, which hid the guns behind concrete and earthen walls when not being fired. These powerful guns could fire 617-pound shells at a distance of nine miles.

  • Stop at the museum and browse through interesting artifacts that date back to the Civil War. Visit the gift shop, which offers a variety of souvenirs commemorating your visit, before heading back to the pier.

  • Take a stroll through history when you visit Fort Clatsop and learn about the momentous Lewis and Clark expedition.

  • On this adventure you will…

  • Travel a short distance to the Astoria Column for a brief photo stop. Built in 1926, the 125-foot tall concrete and steel structure features a cast-iron 164-step staircase that leads to an observation deck. If you decide to climb to the top, you'll be rewarded with majestic views of Astoria, the Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped volcanoes of the Cascade Range.

  • Climb back aboard your bus and head towards the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park for a tour of Fort Clatsop. The 50-foot by 50-foot structure is a replica of the 7-room fort built by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition after realizing their goal of reaching the Pacific. Rangers and re-enactors are on hand to answer any questions.

  • Stop at the Columbia River Maritime Museum. Located on Astoria's historic waterfront, the museum features one of the most extensive collections of nautical artifacts on the west coast, including the Lightship Columbia. Lightships served as floating lighthouses, providing a beacon for ships at sea when a beam from a traditional coastal lighthouse couldn't reach.

  • Stroll on the 1.5-mile promenade, feed the seals at the aquarium, try your luck in the arcades, shop for souvenirs or take a ride on the carousel in the heart of downtown. Be sure to sample some of Seaside's famous salt water taffy, a locally made confection that comes in all sorts of exotic flavors from huckleberry to habanero.

  • Climb back aboard your bus and continue on to Cannon Beach, its name derived from a U.S. Navy cannon that washed ashore in 1846. The town is considered an artist's colony and some of the best photographers, writers, painters, glassblowers and ceramists on the Oregon coast call Cannon Beach home.

  • Enjoy a fine meal at one of the many bistros or enjoy the fresh sea air while you walk along the pristine beach. Visit Haystack Rock, which lies just south of town. Composed of basalt, this 235-foot-tall monolith rises up out of the ocean and is home to many sea birds such as puffins, gulls and cormorants.

  • Reboard your bus and return to Astoria.

  • On this adventure you will…

  • Enjoy a scenic ride on a deluxe motor coach through the Coast Range into the Western edge of Willamette Valley. The tour starts when we reach Plum Hill Winery, known for Pinot Noirs and other innovative wine options. Learn about the process of winemaking from planting, harvesting, crushing, fermenting, bottling, aging and drinking. Then, on to the crush-plant where the juice is extracted to begin the process of making wine. See the aging room and wine barrel storage area, then on to the bottling/labeling area where the wines are put into the bottles, labeled and boxed for sale.

  • Break into smaller groups during the tour so each of you can have a better experience talking and learning with our hosts. During the course of the tour, you will taste wines to experience the end products as you learn about the winemaking process.

  • Feast on a picnic style boxed lunch at the tasting room patio.

  • Proceed to the Apolloni Winery, which is known for its Pinot Noir and other Italian styled wines. Taste several flights of their wines and take a walk among the vineyard or play a game of Bocce ball.

  • Return to Astoria and your ship.
